New Lid - But what is it?

As some of you may have seen I have been after a new lid and well after trying a few on in J&S I found a couple I liked and did an internet search.

Finding two of the best fits on ebay from a motorbike shop, 5 star Arai Dealer too. http://www.alphamotorcycles.co.uk/

As I am tight and my last 2 lids have been £59.99 and £25, both good sharp ratings though, I thought I would see what they would go for. Was watching them at 1030 on Sunday night, one flew past £165 so I ignored that one and looked at the other and in the last 25 seconds, put in a cheeky £115.01 bid on it - and to my amazement I won! £125 for the lid including postage!

I thought I was getting an Arai Astro R, but it turned up today and is in a Viper GT box, not that I am too bothered as it fits lovely and is half the weight of the cheaper lids.

However looking on the web at images I can't see the difference between them.

Anyone know how I can tell?

What a result though a brand spanking new arai for £125 with a 5 year guarantee, not the best pattern on it as I prefer plain lids but well £125 is a real bargain.

Re: New Lid - But what is it?

I think it may also be ready for a pinlock as it has 2 small white things - one either side of visor.

That being the case what do I need to do?

If its a viper / astro it should have a pinlock system in the box, its basicly a thin plastic shield which is a bit smaller than the visor, if its not there i'd ask them about it

mine says viper on the back of the lid - on the outside towards the base. be interested to see what you think of the pinlock, only used it once and thought it was ok but seemed to restrict my view.

p.s you pikey !

Get a race pinlock insert has a bit more at the top that may help

Re: New Lid - But what is it?

Just read the description and it is pinlock ready but not included.

Oi Mike how does getting a brand new lid for less than half-price make me a pikey? I am a pikey but a bargain doesn't make me so.

My pikey car put a few X3's to shame on the weekend!!

Just checked on race visors a pinlock insert is about £18, clearly I'll be doing a search for a cheaper one.

How do they attach?

Will yellow reduce night time glare? or will it be too dark for commuting...

Mike just read your post - in the interests of pikeyness stick yours in the post mate!

So is it an Astro or a Viper...

Re: New Lid - But what is it?

The Viper has a deflector that pulls down from inside the chin bar which I'm fairly sure the Astro doesn't have. I think the vents on the back are different too. Can you post a pic?
