Is the sv clutch 'snappier' than the average bike?

Although im new to big bikes i have rode a zr7 (and a lovely smooth ride it is) one big difference i have noticed is that my sv clutch is not as progressive, it engages and then bam its off :o

Is this typical?

I noticed this on my SV after riding a bandit for a while; the SV clutch was a little grabbier / less progression than the big ol' bandit one

Cool so it is normal, so here is another question. Can i buy an aftermarket clutch set to change this, i dont like it at all.

as you have neglected to provide details, it's impossible to give any worthwhile feedback, apart from generalised opinion.

THe standard SV clutch is not heavy by any means, so whether it's just your perspective or a poor maintinance/fault issue we have no way of knowing.

I agree, its not heavy at all, its just the range of motion where it engages it tigher than other big bikes i have tried.

given the age of the bike, a good service and correct adjustment would be the first port of call, plenty of guides already posted on the subject so I won't reiterate.

Poor adjustment,"sticky" cable are just some of the reasons this maybe an issue to you, or it could be a lack of experiance (have you tried more than one sv?), if a well maintaned normally working SV clutch is to "harsh" for you then you'll have problems with quite a few bike out there, also in the world of progressive power, the SV is the friendly one of the bunch, if you can't get on with that :smt102.

ER5, VX800 and a ZR7 ive tried, and several 125's nothing as been so snappy as this, cable is fine.

Id love to try another sv, to seen how it compares lol, i think ill start with a fresh batch of oil first and go from there.

I had a few clutch dragging problems and slight snatchiness; an oil change was sufficient to cure these problems.

See how you go, maybe give the worm drive mechanism and pushrod and cabels a good lubing aswell

could it be because its a "V" twin and the grabby'iness is the pulses of the engine you can feel?

rev it abit more so the engine smooths out before you feed the clutch out.
