Jordan Bikes (Leeds)
 

Hi guys,

Anyone deal with these guys regularly? My bike broke down a few weeks ago and as it was looking expensive, rather than use Colin Appleyard's as usual, I thought I'd try these guys, though I'm not sure they'll actually be much, if at all cheaper.

Anyone have good/bad/any feedback about them. They certainly seem nice enough chaps.

More to the point, I suppose is would you trust them to change a shagged engine over?

do it yourself, and save hundreds of pounds on labour...

Can't say I haven't thought of the idea ... despite not having done much more than a few minor bits of work on her before. If I had so much as a garage to leave her in bits for a while, I'd seriously consider it - though not just out of the motivation to save money.

Had my bike serviced and MOT'd there just over a year ago. Wasn't impressed. They covered the chain with some kind of silicon grease that seemed to collect every bit of dirt I rode past, when I got home (only 4 miles), I found the chain was too slack (over 4cm travel at tightest point - compared to 2-3cm recommended in manual). Also, when I then tightened my chain I found whichever gorilla had tightened the rear wheelnut hadn't used a torque wrench and had used over 100Nm of torque (well above the 65Nm recommended in the manual) and forced the nut inside the piece it is normal fastened against.

It's a shame, I thought they looked a really professional outfit and had a good reputation.

Still buy most of my gear from the Bikegear side of the store though. They are great, always really helpful. :D

I now use Odsal Motorcycles to service my bike, cheaper and seem to pay attention to what they are doing.

What's wrong with the bike? YC goes over your way on a regular basis, might be able to have a look?

Never used 'em myself, but a lad at work has had numerous problems with them regarding a bike he bought there. While I was looking for a bike myself I dropped in there and they were expensive.

HB Motorcycles in Dewsbury get my thumbs up - and they run SV race bikes, so they know their way around.

Hmm. Not getting too many positive replies about Jordan here. They've found a couple of (quite pricey £550) donor engines available, and they either want to fit one of those or give me the bike back sharpish. To be fair, it's been there for a couple of weeks now.

Hadn't heard of HB in Dewsbury. I bet they've transplanted a few engines in their time racing SVs.

Looks like I'll be crossing my fingers and hoping these guys do a good job. They are Suzuki specialists and all. I'll be sure to follow up how it goes.

Got a nearly new (6,500 miles) engine to pick up from MT motorcycles in Doncaster on Saturday for £450.

I'd really like to have done this myself, but without some space to work, tools and my previous experience of doing relatively minor things on the SV wrong, it's probably not the best way for me to learn this kind of thing.

Anyone got suggestions on what to do with an old engine? How about a Top Gear-like coffee table?
