Bad Weather Visibility
 

For the last few years, I've been using Holts Anti-Fog and Water-Repellant. Seems to do a reasonable job- stops the visor misting under moderatly bad conditions and makes rain run right off at decent speeds.

But have I been able to find it recently? Have I F.....

So- popped into local Halfords on Thursday night, knowing I had a wet and windy journey on Friday down to the folks' place (A31, M3, M27, New Forest), so I needed something.

Found a really helpful member of staff (not only better than the usual grunt I get from staff in there, but articulate and out of the way helpful), but asked if it needs to be that brand and offered to help with car specific rain repellant ("No problem", says I,"As long as it keeps water off and is OK with plastic"- most anti fog stuff for cars is glass only). He even offered me a cloth to dry the visor (was a rough night!) and another to try the stuff out first.

So I got this-

Seems to work- though I think there's a knack to applying it- it didn't eat my visor (HJC Pinlock visor), but it seemed a little reluctant to stick and bubbled up. I think maybe the visor has anti-scratch and some sort of water repellant built into it as well...

It did a good job of repelling rain on the ride into work, but less so on spray while heading to the folks'.

Anyone else use anything useful for your visor or some tips for applying (aside rub 1 layer in with a soft cloth in circles, allow to dry, repeat, allow to dry to a mist, use a sprinkle of water to polish clear)?

It did help though- especially when the rain started again...

been using rainX Intersted to see what the top recommendationis because I'm not happy with it any more, maybe I need to use more of it?

+1 on this. Used to use Rainx on my car, but it was a pain to apply, although it did work.

Turtle wax got the Auto Express top recommendation and it is a lot easier to apply. Same result, hopefully will last longer between applications

I've only used it on my car screen, but so long as it doesn't eat the visor, id recommend it

I looked at a bottle of RainX but it does state "do not apply to plastic" so I didn't dare try it. Has anyone been using it long term without ill effects?

Was it the pink stick thingy? yeah I still have that but haven't been using it cos it's more of a pain to use - that reminds me I mus try it again :thumbsup:

Yes I've been using it a long time & the visor seems none the worse for it

Nah! 'twas the blue & yellow spray can which I thought you were extracting the wee at the time

I use pledge with beeswax. Works for me.

+1 I've been using a bottle of that Nikwax stuff. It works well but needs re-applying quite often - I've been doing it every day in the carp weather we've been having lately.
