I'm a Dad!
Finally, the chickens have laid an egg!
This might not be a big thing to many, but to us, it's brilliant! :D http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/w/y/wyandotte.gif After checking every day since the beginning of August, finally, there's a beautiful, perfectly formed little egg for Meg to find tonight. It's from her Silver Laced Wyandotte bantam who was shouting for all her might this morning. I thought it was the weather upsetting them, but it must have been because of the egg! And no, I wont'e be sitting on it to get it to hatch... Pete ;) |
Re: I'm a Dad!
well best not to put all your eggs in one basket!

Re: I'm a Dad!
this may be a daft question but it is something I have never understand so here goes.............
how do you know the differance between an egg with a baby chicken in and a egg that you can cook?! And which one is this that has been laid? |

If you're worried just look at it with a torch behind, if it's fertile and old enough you 'should' be able to see blood vessels forming. I've had many off allotments that have the start of an embryo (slightly cloudy white and a dot in the centre of the yolk) when you crack them into the frying pan. All taste good though. Ste |

Re: I'm a Dad!
As far as i know all eggs are edible & as a child my family had chickens & cockerals & we ate all the eggs produced, i was always told that so long as the chicken hadn't sat on them for a few days the incubation would cease.
If ever you crack an egg & there is a small white circle on the yolk around 2-3mm across, this is called the germinal disc & that is where the sperm entered the yolk, now has that put you off???? |

Re: I'm a Dad!
Depends if you're squeemish or not really, lokos a bit odd on a plate if fried and the other half won't touch them.
Or could go to the extremes like this one on China - Not for the faint hearted, the clue is in the wording of the link. http://www.uglyfood.com/category/birds/ |
