*swear words* Any org bankers?
Just so I can hope for some sleep tonight, before customer services open in the morning; I've just transfered a substantial amount of cash online and entered the account number wrong, moneys left my current account but not appeared in my other account (of course it won't have I typed the wrong fudgin account number).
Will I ever see this money again? |

Eeeek! :smt022
I did something similar a few months ago, however the bank sorted it out for me and ensured that it arrived where it should. Especially useful if the name of the account is used too so they can spot the mistake. :hackedoff: Get on the phone quick if you have 24 hour banking like I do. ;) Good luck. |
Re: *swear words* Any org bankers?
very, very hard to get back mate. Has the online banking got a "report a problem" button or anything??
Martianskippy on here did a similar thing but lucky for him he paid the money to his ex-landlord or something like that so he managed to get it back from him. I dont think the bank were willing to do anything about it tho. |
Re: *swear words* Any org bankers?
Apparently hsbc don't do 24 hour banking cause they're tossers.
It's transferred to another account in my name, the reason I got the bloody accoutn number wrong is because on the documentation they've missed the zeros off the front so assumed that was how it was entered grrrr. |

In my experience, assuming that the payment has been sent by BACS, then the payment can be recalled tomorrow. Make sure that you are on the phone to them asap and insist that this is done. If this isn't done, hope that it is the sort code that is wrong, and that the one you invented doesn't exist. This will also get the money back to you, though it may take anything up to ten working days for the recieving bank and yours to communicate to return it. If the sort code exists, but the account number doesn't, as above, but it may take longer but should still be within the ten working days timescale. If the account number and sort code do exist however, you've just paid someone a lot of money. If you can't/haven't managed to recall the payment, then expect a longer battle to try to get the money back, and hope that whoever recieved it isn't in the spending mood and doesn't want to pay it back at a couple of quid per month... |
