Electrical weird one.

Spent a bit of time on the bike today and fitted new indicators, and a new horn today ....... and now got a weird one !!!

Firstly, when the indicators are on, the top half of the rear light seems to flicker (have searched - and this is normal ??)

But, strangely .... when setting the alarm .... not only the indicators, but the front side lights flash too !!!

My first guess is I've wired one of the indicators (or horn) wrong ....... but would this make the side lights flash ???

Does it matter which way you wire the horn ??

Its hard to try this when operating the hazards, as ignition on, means sidelights on anyway !!!

Other than these 2 weird, and annoying problems ....... all seems well !!!

hmm my rear light flickers with indicators but thats because i have 2x h4 65w bulbs on the go (Front) and is to much for the regulator so when all the lights are on it starts struggling for power

On my bike, the top 3 or 4 leds in each bank flicker a bit too with indicators. I've read that this is because the units degrade over time, and you need to replace it. Later ones apparently don't suffer.

Barwel, 65W isn't significantly more than standard (on a pointy anyway). I wouldn't expect this to affect the tail lights much if the engine is running.

The indicators aren't trying to earth through the rear light circiut are they?

I'll go through the wiring again tomorrow .....

But, when replacing the horn using the existing wiring ....... do the wires have to go a specific way around ??? or doesn't it matter on that circuit ??

....... and why are the sidelights operating with the hazards (on the alarm) ?? Is this me wiring one of the indicators wrong ?? Again, mostly existing wiring, but cutting and adding !!!

Horns work on a permanent live feed when the ignition is on, the switch connects it to earth. Doesn't matter what way the wires go.;)

Great .......... thats what I thought ....thanks

So, its down to looking at the sidelight/hazards problem ....... any idea anyone how the indicators/hazards are linked to the sidelights ....... should I be looking at the front or rear indicators in particular .... or could it be any of them thats wrong ???

Flickering lights? My first thought is that there is significant resistance somewhere in connectors or earths.

Not concerned about the flickering lights now ...

Update on the indicator/sidelight problem ...... when the indicators are switching to OFF, and the alarm set ... the sidelights don't flash ..... but when indicators set on .... the alarm set, etc ... the sidelights flash .....

Obviously a short somewhere .... but buggered if I know where !!

Can I isolate the front and rear indicators (or side to side) to narrow it down a little ??

Only concerned because (might be paranoid) the sidelights look really bright at the moment !!
