Avon Storms

I had a new set of avon storms fitted yesterday by Spannerman's underling Bill - excellent service as always. These tyres replace my previous Bridgestone BT021's, which despite having about 10,000 miles on them still had plenty of life left (except for a small strip on the front tyre). However, not ever having liked them I wanted rid, and now was the time I suppose.

I will try and keep this thread updated on their performance. Initial impressions are that they are a sable, but fast-turning tyre. The bridgestone, by comparison, was always a slow-turner, even when new. The avons tend to drop in a little easier. I also find the grip and feedback are far better than the bridgestones. Right from the off, I found that I had a vauge feeling with the rear BT021, and when i got the front one put on, this continued and I lost alot of confidence in my riding. A 25 mile ride back from spannermans helped to regain some of that confidence; in particular, coming off hangar lane gyrotary and continuing north on the A406, the corner that you come off has always made me nervous. Not so last night, I had plenty of feel and grip despite the surface not being completly dry.

So, first impressions - Good, fast turning tyres without the lack of stability.

I'll update the thread later on this coming week after I've used them in a few differant conitions (early morning cold, evening warmish, wet, dry, greasy)

Re: Avon Storms

As the Storm have been around a while, they have been pretty much covered, are these the new Avon Storm extremes that are replacing the earlier ones then ?

Cheers Mark.

Yeah they've released the stom ultimates which supposedly are the same tyre but with a silicon (?) something or other for a longer life and are supposedly more mallable for a larger contact patch at big lean angles

Avon storms are good just had a new rear on mine (£93 fitted - I was impressed) as the old one was just starting to square at over 5k, guy in the shop reckoned it was ****ed but I still asked for it back for sparesys :) admittedly in the cold light of the shop it looked squarer, and the sides had a blue twinge to them.

I don't think so. In any case, it is often nice to gather as many opinons of many people as possible; I will be trying to make a concise collection of my observations and experiances with these tyres

I'm still on the front Avon Storm I had fitted 12,000 miles ago, and I had another rear fitted about 300 miles ago. Even the old front felt great at Oulton Park, they're all blistered around the edges now ^_^
On the road they're also awesome, lots of confidence from cold, never used better tires in the wet.
I got 7-8k out of the first rear I had.

I got a pair fitted by Spannerman and Bill the other week and I'm also extremely impressed with the tyres so far. I'm about 400-500miles in, mostly spent in the wet and they turn in loads quicker than my OEMs and seem to give more feedback rather than a vague feeling which is unnevering!

Sunbury, which is just off of Junction 1 of the M3 - so it's a straight ride down the motorway for me! They can order in any type of tyre I think.

Give stewart a ring before you turn up. His service is excellent, and he has coffee, normal tea and some other kind of weird tea to offer

And bill might start up his big ol' V8 van too, vrrroOOOOooommm

Update: the tyres havn't dissolved in the rain while the bike is parked up for the weekend.

Just intrested to get an idea of price, as i have been recommended a set of storms for my next tyres (which i'm about to get sorted this week). How much did you pay fitted if you don't mind me asking? Cheers Matt.
