Check your security settings and change the SSH root password.

There's a nasty out there so if you have a Jailbroken iPhone, make sure you changed the default password.

"Jailbreak" means you unlock it to get full access to all the settings and config that the phone company / apple would rather you didnt...

Have a google for it, the virus problem that Soulkiss talks about is well documented.

There are a few benefits of jailbreaking the iphone, but only really if your an advanced user and want to do stuff like tethering (which you can now do through O2 anyway, but used to only be possible if you jailbreaked your phone). Its a phone at the end of the day, which is what I use mine for.....and music. Anything else.....I use a computer like normal people?!?!?!?

This only affects iPhones that have been 'jailbroken'. That means that you can install software that hasn't been approved by Apple. Some people have installed something called 'ssh' (secure shell) and have not bothered to change the administrator password. This gives anybody on the internet complete control over their phone. The technical term for anybody who installs ssh and doesn't change the password is a 'moron'.

Since these morons have given complete control of their phone to absolutely anybody, it's hardly surprising that people are taking advantage.

There are very few reasons why anybody would need to install ssh on their phone. I can think of one, but it requires some quite technical knowledge, that most people don't possess, and anyone who does possess that level of knowledge should know to change the password.

I suspect that most of the victims are people who thought that it would be cool to jailbreak their phone, without actually understanding what they were installing. For the vast majority of people, it isn't really necessary.

When you jailbreak your iphone you can customise it and other kool stuff and you dont have to pay them silly prices for apps as you can download them for free.

The default password threat as been around for a while now but cheers for the Heads up SK, not eveyone knows. :)

No need to thank me, I see this as more a Nelson Munce style "Ha-Ha", with a side order of "I told you so"

:)
