Clutch problem.

Hi
we have a 2002 sv650 with a clutch that is biting with the lever pulled in. I am at the limit of the adjustment on the bars and have pulled it in on the gearbox and although the leve has gone tight I am still getting drag and it stalls as soonas I put it in gear. Should I slacken it off on the bars and then tighten it on the gearbox or will that not make any difference?

Cheers for any help

Basically adjust the worm drive first.

Quote:

Anyway, dead easy to do - take off the front sprocket cover (3 x 8mm bolts, need a long socket), then slack the clutch cable right off at both ends. Place a flat-headed screw driver in the slot for the worm-drive, hold it, and undo the 10mm nut (might need a bit of a tug, dont skin your knuckles!). Turn the worm drive in with the screw driver until it engages the mechanism, then back off 1/8 of a turn. Hold it there, and tighten the 10 mm nut back up. Re-tighten the clutch cable (remember to leave a little slack for when you turn the handlebars side-to-side). Oh, get some oil on the worm drive mechanism and some on the gear selector shaft to it all runs smoothly
Next make sure the hand lever is adjusted so its fully out.

If its still dragging try an oil change, this was what made mine drag.

This may be of some use:

Got it so the clutch wasn't disengaging at all no matter what I did with the adjuster. Chain adjustment, rear wheel bearing!, idle speed & oil need to be checked.

A very wise man told me yesterday: Clutch adjustment at engine end, lever adjustmet at lever end.

If you continue having clutch problems, then change the oil. I had some issues with my clutch dragging when the engine was cold, an oil change later and all was well.
