The real stupid precedent is believing that a petition on that site will result in anything other than a "Go away, we know better than you" form email sometime after the petition closes...

Better bet - go see your MP

Agree with SK here. Also from the petition itself...."The head rider might be traveling at legal mph limit but could be given the same penalty as the worst offender behind."

That clearly wasn't tha case in the ruling. The lead rider was also over the limit, 85pmh iirc but was accused of a higher speed than that.

if you're gonna put a petition together it makes sense to get the facts right.

As much as i disagree with the ruling i for one wont be putting my name to such a badly thought out and put together petition.

And the link to the other petition doesnt state anywhere that the petition had any bearing on the decision. Its simply says... "We understand that following further discussions between the council and the applicant, planning permission has now been granted for a new purpose built home for Marine Townsend. We are delighted that there has been a resolution to this matter..." so it seems that the Govt never even got involved.

Imho all these petitions do is make it easier for the govt to get you on one or more of their various datatbases of "subversives" simply cos you have a view thats different from theirs.

No mate, i dont think it'll affect large groups at all. If you read the other thread about this you'll see my reasoning (if you're interested that is of course)

its a ruling, it does not mean you will be hammered at the side of the road by the police, if you went to court it might effect you..
