Helmet / Tank Cams.
 

Me and one of the boys in the office are doing a work thing that'll involve making a mini 'Long Way Round' video. Once I got over the surprise that we're doing it, I realised that I know nothing about recording / editing / compiling videos (beyond the ones you can do on your mobile phone). So this is really a request for advice and tips around hemet / tank cams, and beyond. Only just started thinking about it, but already -

What sort / spec of camera do we need for good clarity of images ?

Helmet or tank cams ?

Do they have tend to have sound recording capability or do we do that separately ?

We'll need to splice it all together when we're finished. Are there any sites that you'd recommend for instructions on how to do this ?

How long do batteries last ?

I've also got a few questions around memory requirements - but can't remember them :eek:

Any suggestions you have would be much appreciated. I'm sure everything I need is on the net - I just don't know where to begin searching ......

Bear in mind that if you plan on using it on trackdays that MSV at least do not like tank or helmet mounted cams, mounted anywhere else is fine.

And don't break the law with one fitted.

I have a claim where the third party - a biker had been riding through villages on the back wheel of his supermoto, overtaking at 60+ on 30mph roads, again wheelying his way around other vehicles. As he left the village, on the wrong side of the road, he was in a dip on the road, and the emerging vehicle saw the oncoming car, as it rose over the crest and figureed he had time to pull out, but as he did so, the bike emerged past, going much faster, t boning the emerging vehicle.

The cam flew off, and was retrieved by an old dear from her garden who handed it to the police. The biker was on the basis of the cam footage, sent to prison for 12w, lost his emplyment, and two years later is fighting the drivers insurers for compo for his leg, which they are resisting.

It was in MCN a few weeks ago, and yes, It's me on the other side dealing with the claim for the insurer.

I have a nic chunk braket that fits to the fuel filler bolts on the tank. Mean you can still fill the bike up with fuel etc. With this you can bolt any kind of camcorder on it. So if you have a decent High Def CC, then you just load up the files and use windows movie maker.

I got the final go-ahead today and my work are going to supply the hardware. All I've got to do is understand how it works but since we're not doing it until about March / April, I've got plenty of time to learn !!!
