Girly Mechanic strikes back... with top yoke fun
 

Hey lovely folks of the Org, :grouphug:

I has me a really lovely K3 (pointy- doncha know) S model with that lovely insectile front end. :smt077

However, I really do not like the clip ons. :smt010

So, I am prepared to swap my top yoke and clip ons for a K3 fitting, N type top yoke with the bar mounts. Don't want the SV bar though. :scratch:

If you have a suitable top Yoke, but are happy to sell for a reasonably price I am prepared to do that too. :salut:

Just please help get rid of the Clip ons, they make my wrists ache (and no I am not a big girly poof, I am just fragile and don't do low bars anymore).[-(

Oh, if you wanted to do the swap at mine, I have a lovely garage and more tea than you can drink plus plenty of coffee, hot chocolate and cake. However, no meat pies because I am a veggie! :smt107

Have you looked at other options, such as clip-on risers? I think you can also get handlebar attachments that fit to your existing top yoke, although there might be some drilling involved.

I have thought about risers, such as Helibars, but they just don't look right for what I want. I am hoping to fit a nice wide anodised bar that will raise my wrists, but not be too high to cause other problems. I need the bars to go up by about four inches in total. :D

I do not mind drilling the top yoke, but a comment left yesterday when I asked about it put me off slightly. When it comes to doing the drilling, I have a friend in Bristol I can talk to about having it done properly, not just me wobbling in the garage with a worn out Black and Decker! :salut:

Any advice on how to safely fit a riser to my top yoke would be greatly appreciated though. :drink:

However, I imagine that an N model top yoke would be very easy to fit and proceed from?

drilling the top yoke is easy and fine on the sv...dont listen to those who diss it..i know a few who have done that and all has been fine....i was all set to ,when a naked top yoke came up on good ol ebay for £30:D....will keep my eyes peeled for one;)

forgot to add yes easy to fit, but u will need a naked clock bracket( diff to faired) and longer brake hoses...clutch and throttle will work fine if rerouted the proper way..anymore questions just ask

I was planning on keeping the faring in place, just raising the bars up to make it more comfortable and also to make it look cool with a crosser bar.

Will a N model top yoke fit given that I want to do this?

If not, then drilling is the answer. :salut:

yes n yoke will fit with existing fairing in place....ign just bolts in as normal...i did away with the fairing hence i lost the clock/fairing bracket..so i needed a naked clock bracket.....u will still need to reroute clutch and throttle...but buy longer brake hoses £50.......hth;)

Hmmmm so you didn't fancy your risers snapping the yoke in an off, but are quite willing to let others do it? novel take on it I'll admit.

Drilling the top yoke can of course be done, however the Naked yoke is made with added strength where the risers mount, there are several ways to safely mount them on a faired yoke (support plates, billet incerts), but just drilling a hole isn't something I'd do, I've seen the results of that.

Update time, one of our glorious members brought a top yoke on E-Bay to my attention and I have been watching that. It has a couple of days to go, but if lady luck shines my way, I will have that. :smt118

I am planning on fitting a riser bar to my S Model K3 and maybe a 33BHP restriction. It all depends on a few things going my way on E-Bay and with the wife. The joy of being off sick is being able to scour E-Bay for hours and hours. (you would not believe the rubbish that some people will try to sell, have they hot heard of scrap yards and metal recycling?) :-k

The more I think about it, the more that my bike is becoming a Low powered street fighter. :smt054

There are so many Mods I want to make. However, to be controversial, I really like the Suzuki standard exhaust! I know... Told you I was off sick!:smt107

I might be wrong, but isn't there a different offset for the N & S yokes (you might need top and bottom)? I drilled (carefully and with a slight chamfer) my GSXR yokes for risers, and used fender washers on the underside: Honestly they're not going to just fall apart suddenly, and show no signs of cracking after some quick road riding, bra-yanking wheelies and a track day. They might fail if I crash hard, but I'm betting on having worse things to worry about at that point.

Here's before I went "naked". I added Renthal risers and a new pair of Aprilia Tuono fat-bars, whcih have a nice shape and width relative to MX fat-bars:
