Boy meets Girl...?
Following on from the Sarah's law thread. I think it's ridiculous that a 16 yr old boy who sleeps with a 15 yr old girl, when both were consenting, can be convicted as a rapist and/or a paedophile, and be added to the sex offenders register.
OK, it's not two consenting adults, but it is two consenting young people, one of whom is treated as an adult male by law as far as sex is concerned, and a girl who, if you believe the well established research has a more mature mental age than the boy. Medical reasons why a girl shouldn't be having sex before 16 yrs of age I agree with, but if Boy meets Girl and the urge is there, you won't stop them, better surely to educate them to protect themselves, not criminalise them? Should there be an age range for under 18's, within which the older partner cannot be treated as a criminal where consent occurred, ie: 2 years, so a 16 yr old can't be criminalised for sleeping with a 14 yr old (not sure about that one, but it does happen with consent and IMO it's not paedophilila with that age difference), or a 17yr old is safe with a 15yr old, but if either touch a 13yr old, then straight to the dock! I know that when I was 14 there were one or two in my peer group who were fairly steady boyfriend and girlfriend and were sexually active, and before our 16th birthdays the majority of us were. I even remember one slapper under 16 who was always sleeping with guys over 25 (at the time we never even though about paedophilila, we just though she was a slapper who always went for guys who were no longer students so had money and a car!). I know one who slept with the PE teacher at 14! He got sacked but not convicted of anything. So in addition to the questions above about criminalising young people (?), and should we have a "safe" age range (?), I will also add an anonymous poll for people to vote on when they lost their virginity and to whom? The results will be interesting, if they are a majority on here who lost their virginity under 16, or lost it to somebody who was under 16, then we live in a very hypocritical society if we are criminalising young people who do it now. |
Re: Boy meets Girl...?
I think the sentencing of two 15yrs olds is different than a 25yr old with a 15 yr old.
Going off at at a tangent; slapper; 16 yr old guys sleeping around are often considered a 'stud/hero' by his peers but a 16 yr old girl doing the same is a slapper...? Unfair. Why is it us men love nymphomaniac virgins? |

Re: Boy meets Girl...?
one of my closest friends has just got his girlfriend pregnant. nowt wrong with that you say, well he is 42 she is 19 and is his daughters best friend. they have been seeing each other since she was 16 (or so they say). they are a very happy couple and love each other.
is this wrong? oooohhhh and it wasn't that long ago in England that the legal age of consent/marriage was 21. |

Perhaps its an older generation thing. Some would want to marry a virgin but would want them to perform, on the wedding night, like Debbie Does Dallas. |
Re: Boy meets Girl...?
My sons ex girlfriends dad (I know torturous relationship link). Managed to get a lass he knew from the local pub pregnant when she was 16, he at the time was 58 with kids ranging from 40 down to 15.
His then partner left him, his kids would not talk to him for quite a bit etc. But bear in mind his partner had been with him since she was 15 and was his daughters babysitter. A few locals refer to him as the village paedophile |

Its the one thing I find abhorrent in this society. Personally while the kids are getting pregnant at 11/12 we need to be educating more as this is something we may not be able to stop. Everyone should not the law but everyone breaks laws at somepoint. The main crux is why is it only the guy that get prosecuted - surely a consenting 14 year old female is aware that she is commiting a crime and therefore she should be prosecuted as well. At 14 we didn't even look at guys our group were far more interested in other things - music clothes art etc etc. |
