Has it been dropped?

Hi,

This is my first post and I need some help - good start!:smt105

I'm looking at an SV650s 57 plate that's for sale. All looks good....apart from a slight indentation on the left side lock stop. I've been told that when a bike hits the desk the lock stop can be damaged (indented) when the handlebar snaps back when it hits the floor.

What I can't work out is whether the indentation has been made by some over zealous turning of the handle bars when locking the steering or the impact from an accident.

Any thoughts / views appreciated.

Thanks

Over time the lock stop will get slightly dented by the bars always going to the left to lock the bike up. I wouldn't worry about it, and I'd concentrate on the overall condition instead.

So what if it has been dropped, as long as it's been repaired properly. Most SVs have been down the road at some point, due to the fact that they are popular bikes for those who've just passed their test.

TBH could just have been dropped off the stand.

Things to look for that most people miss are the undersides of the footpegs, if its been dropped they fold up and scuff and very differently to when you get them down on the road, not badly enough to need replacing though.

If the other side lockstop isn't seriously marked, then I might be suspicious. If it's been repaired properly then it shouldn't be a problem, however, if an insurance company repaired it, then the frame would almost have certainly been replaced even though the damage is largely superficial, so it might have been repaired privately. Defo HPI check it.

Thanks for all your comments.

I'll have another look at the bike particularly the pegs etc.

As long as the bars ain't squashing your thumbs on the tank on full lock, I wouldn't worry about it. There is an issue with failing an MOT if it does do this. As I found out with a friends SV, when she had it MOT'd and failed.

But you have to have thrown it down a ravine to have done that ;-)

Re: Has it been dropped?

I checked the bike over this morning and there are no problems, I got a torch to see the lock stop better, the mark was very light, as Lozzo noted, it was caused by putting it on left lock when getting off the bike.

The rest of the bike looks right -peg etc- so I'm going to get it :smt041.

Thanks again for the comments

I went to see an 07 black sv sport which I suspected had been dropped it looked great but the only owners address who wasnt the seller led back to a postcode where they had a motorbike salvage site, there was no log book etc. I didnt buy the bike because of the fear of bent frames hidden damages ETC,
