Fuel pump wiring 3 or 4 prong

Hi Guys,
I'm working to repair a crash damaged '05 SV650 naked, the tank has been removed because of damage. The connector for the fuel pump is a brown four prong, the replacement fuel pump has a white three prong plug. What does the extra green and black wire do? If I join the same color wires together what do I do with the extra green one? Why do they have different wiring - which is not shown in the Haynes manual?
I know that is a lot of questions but you guys know your stuff right?
Cheers:smt030

p.s from my experience it appears the 4 pin is on the black frames.i had a day around breakers and couldn't find one the same as the wife's k4 i have a butchered loom here but like i say think the k4 loom is a loner i did actually get it to run just 1 wire to bridge and tidy it would prob be OK. these looms are 350 =+ vat at Suzuki!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the quick reply guys.
Yes it looks like that light green and black wire goes to the speedo for a fuel light.
You are also right about the 4 pin plug being from a black frame. If I had known in advance I would have bought a fuel pump with the brown 4 prong connector.
The P.O. cut off the wires on the female side of the brown connector, so I'll probably splice the wires from the 3 pin plug into those. That way I wont cut the wiring loom at all and if later I feel the need for the fuel light to work buy another fuel pump with the 4 pin connector.
Parts for these bikes are cheap here on Ebay (US) compared to new Suzuki parts, I can't believe the new prices for some of the electrical sensors.

if you look on ebay you can but 3 pi plug connectors i had to get one once they only a couple of quid then you dont need to splice it and will look neater as well as easy to remove tank

I have both sides of the brown 4 prong connector (male and female), the PO cut the wires before the connector end. So I will have a connector to unplug for easy removal of the tank....I will cut off the three prong connector from the fuel pump...no cutting of the wiring loom.
