WW2 Service Records

Anyone know if there is a way to research world war 2 military service records without going through the MOD directly? (they charge a fee and say it can take upto 6 months)

Trying to get some info on my grandad who served with the Sherwood Rangers regiment. I've found records for WW1 (my great great uncle) but can't find anything that lists personnel info for WW2.

Any help much appreciated ;)

P.S. Happy Christmas everyone!

+ 1 , they probably became the Worcestershire and sherwood forresters, which are now one of the battalions of the mercian regiment. contact their regimental museum for some help.

Try - http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index...ID...topic...0 -
This just by Googling in 2 minutes - also shows how to go about it.
Best of luck!

if you have a military base near you try and contact the Hive as they will be able to help you.
