RAC Aaaah!
Well after being a happy RAC customer for over a year with the two cars and two bikes covered, I can safely say today, I will never ever recommend them again!
Automatically renewed my cover with them the beginning of December with a letter from them saying that unless I contacted them they would renew another year and take the money from my account. Received new cards and thought nothing more about it until today........ Decided to take the kids [age 17,7, and 2] to the park in the old faithful ford galaxy when a few miles down the road the indicators stopped working and then the car lost power. I managed to labour the car to the edge of a roundabout and called RAC. Oh! She said, " your membership has lapsed and unless you pay £95 now, noone will come out to assist you!" New years day, three frozen kids, and now no car. Happy new year RAC [not]. What a mistake to make! RAC members beware! Now can't wait for the banks to open to make sure they didn't take the annual payment out my account. Sorry, rant over orgers. I've calmed down now. Happy new year lovelies! Dx |
Re: RAC Aaaah!
should have complained profusely at them telling them its their fault as per the letter you received.

Re: RAC Aaaah!
I have been an AA member for ages and every year they try and up my policy price by a huge amount. Even though I rarely call them out, often not at all. Each time the renewal comes in I check the price against what they would charge if I was a new customer, and against the RAC and Green Flag equivalent policies. Then I write to them telling them what a good customer I am as I maintain my vehicles, how it must be cheaper for them to retain my custom than get a new customer and that unless they can offer me some sort of loyalty discount to stay with them I shall go elsewhere. This always results in a phone call offering me a vastly reduced cost - this year from £185 down to £115 with the addition of legal cover and accident recovery at no cost. So it's worth haggling whoever you renew with.

Re: RAC Aaaah!
I did Lance. Was very polite but firm. Nothing they can do until Monday though, when their customer services dept is open.
Theyre going to receive a letter of complaint [ not that it'll do any good].x |
Re: RAC Aaaah!
Dawn, do you have cover with your bank? I am with LloydsTSB and with my account comes roadside assistance for me in any vehicle. It is worth checking to see if your bank provides cover such as this.

Re: RAC Aaaah!
I used to be an AA member and then Green Flag with my insurance cover. Luckily I've never had to call them out. But I got cheesed off with the increases and stopped the automatic payment each year.
But I've taken out a bike policy with these guys after reading about it on the Org. Its only for the bike, but I'll be upgrading to car and bike soon. http://www.rescuemycar.com/Breakdown/ |
Re: RAC Aaaah!
Dawn if you have received new membership cards you will be a member as the like to take the money smartish. Hopefully you have a record of your call to them[mobile] and I would now inform them that you are holding them responsible for costs incurred due to their non-attendance and prepared to take them to court if they have failed to update their records with regard to your membership.Calls to the call centre are recorded
