new apple ipad
just been looking at stuff on the new apple ipad, now i know apple/ipods/iphones/macbooks etc... are all loved and loathed here in equal measures. but is there really a market for this new tablet computer?
the way i see it, its basically a big iphone/ipod touch, so would be marketed that way, maybe something to have sitting about in the living room for surfing the net whilst watching tv. use it to sort out your itunes and pics and stuff from a digital camera. i can see this being a bit of a flop. i love my iphone and my ipods before that but i just cant see a need for one of these? anyone any opinions on it? |
Re: new apple ipad
I reckon it'd make a fantastic remote surface for creative workstations, once the apps are out there.
Imagine running a ProTools, Logic or Cubase rig where your plug-ins appear on the iPad so you can manipulate them with touch, rather than a mouse and rather than cluttering up your arrange window. Yes there are many control surfaces out there already, but I think this is the most elegant and potentially flexible, plus it's wireless. It's still the first generation of hardware and software- so not all it's potential will be realised for a while yet. But I like the look of it. |

I was disappointed when I realised this wasn't an electronic sanitary towel like I first assumed...

Re: new apple ipad
i see it as a netbook replacment and therefore a good thing?

Re: new apple ipad
Its expensive and limited, I wouldn't mind if it was cheap and limited. But no usb/sd card slot for ease of reading media, photos and other files, no multi-tasking at all, expensive price, no flash support.
A camera would nice as it would make it a great conference tool, but alas no. I think I'll wait till the Lenovo tablet comes out. |

I don't see the point of it, but it will probably sell like a hot potato still to all the apple lovers even with its short comings. If it had those extra things I could have been tempted, but its no use to me the way it is. |
Re: new apple ipad
I have the smaller, lighter cheaper version of it...and it makes calls.
I think the iPad has a market, but I think its morr of an indicator of whats to come. I reckon in the near future you will see a macpad or propad with all the extra bits n bobs grinch mentioned which will basically replace the laptop range. |

Re: new apple ipad
I found it funny when I read there's a basic version, and then one with Wifi and 3g. So the basic one doesn't even have Wifi?! Insane.
I also couldn't quite understand why people thought it was great because you can use it with a stand and a keyboard. Like a computer then. If someone gave me one for free I don't actually know what I'd do with it. |

I think the basic one comes with Wifi but not 3G... I certainly wouldnt know what to do with one either. Last time I looked at my sisters ipod touch I just put it back down and grabbed the laptop... (or I ususally go to the PC :D). |
