Suggestions for cheap car insurance???
Its renewal time and ive been ploughing through the comparison sites since 5.30 (and I now have that annoying fool singing 'Go compaaaaaaaare' going round and round my head)
Prices seem much higher than they were last year, despite me getting a year old and reaching 35, which I always thought was supposed to result in a discount in itself, not to mention another years ncd. Its a Frontera, so 4x4(ish) and reasonably big, I need class1 business use as I travel to a number of venues around the country, although mileage has dropped as I use the bike more now. Im wondering if anyone has found a decent insurer that doesnt cripple you for class1? I need it to be able to claim mileage back from work (t&c's say class1 fully comp) |
Re: Suggestions for cheap car insurance???
Premiums have gone up by a fair whack this year, mine increased on my renewal by £100 on the previous year even though I turned 25 and got 6 years no claims. Couple that with the fact that if you pay by installments the APR's are nearer 20% now.
I think its all because of low interest rates. The insurers aren't making enough money from our premium money from the banks and can't pay the claims and make money so prices have to increase. I am now paying the same amount for my car now than what I paid when I was 22 and had 3 years no claims. |

Re: Suggestions for cheap car insurance???
you can also try putting a named driver on to reduce it, i put my girlfriend on as a named driver and it goes down around £ 100. you would expect it to go up. easy way to make a saving though.

Re: Suggestions for cheap car insurance???
directline seem to be pretty good plus you get a few extra bits like free windscreen repair from autoglass...
I've got home insurance with them (extra 10% off car insurance), plus another car registerred at the house and insured with them (extra 10% off) plus 7 years no claims... mucho cheapness - oh and protecting no claims bonus is only about an extra 60 quid |
Re: Suggestions for cheap car insurance???
Insurance companies don't just make money from standard or term deposits at banks! They're some of the biggest players in equity markets so have more than likely made a fortune in the last 3 months (or at least recuperated some of the massive losses they'd have made earlier in 2009.
