Tyre changed. Get wheel balanced?
I took my new wheel to the shop down the road with my old *dinged* one and got my almost new tyre from my bad wheel onto the new wheel. So now i have a good tyre on a good wheel again now i noticed the wheel balance weights are exactly where they were... now should they have balanced it and/or should i ask them to balance it? I can't exactly test it out on the bike because the bike and i are still recovering from a crash. So i am talking theoretically and good practice wise.
Any advice appreciated guys thanks. |

You can do static balance yourself

Re: Tyre changed. Get wheel balanced?
You should have it balanced yes. It could be the weights didn't need moving though, have had it on my racebike before. If in doubt pick up the phone and ask them! You will get the right answer then!

Re: Tyre changed. Get wheel balanced?
It might actually be the same. I balanced three tyres last year where the balance point what the same with the old tyre to the new one.
Of course, they may jusy be being lazy too! :) C |
Re: Tyre changed. Get wheel balanced?
I decided to put the wheel in so i could free up my jack but before i lowered the bike onto the wheel i did rotate it out of curiousity and it did have a heavy spot. So where can i get the weights from or can i recycle and just super glue them on? is there a special adhesive?

Re: Tyre changed. Get wheel balanced?
have a word with your local tyre fitting shop (Including the big chains). Most will give you a handfull of stick on weights for free.
You can recycle the old ones with double sided foam tape. I've got a roll of black stuff and it's extremely sticky. Remember to clean the chain Oil off your wheel first. C |
