fuel-Extra hidden duty‏

.

When VAT was temporarily reduced to 15%, the Chancellor added 2% duty to fuel to offset the reduction in tax collected from motorists. Now that VAT has been increased to 17.5% again this hidden tax has not been removed - hence recent rises in your fuel costs. Sign the petition at the link below to have this stealth tax removed!

You should know better... Once something has got a tax on it, it is damned hard to get it removed unless there is an election looming.

Is this true? Can anyone point me in the direction of the evidence that 2% was added to the cost of fuel when VAT was reduced last january?

It's true Messie, well documented

You didn't think they'd let an opportunity to stick the knife a little further like this slip away did you?

Yeah, normally I insta-delete anything that says "you have to email this to everyone you know" but this is actually true

Not that the online petition will make any difference, Winky Mc-****nut promised to freeze fuel duty for a year and put it up twice, this'll be the 3rd time - all we'll get is some mumbled BS about how we have to encourage people to not use their cars etc etc blah blah blaaaaah

Nice bit of domestic terrorism is what we need, blow up a few government buildings, why should the religious nutjobs have a monopoly on that sort of thing???

Oh... Erm... That was out loud wasn't it??8-[

While on about fuel duty, prices are not relative to barrel prices.
When the cost of crude went through the roof, pertrol prices went up to record levels, now they have settled down again they are no where near the prices for they were when the barrel price was similar, even without the duty taken into account.
We are being shafted L/R and centre and becasue we stand for it, they keep doing it.
Remember also, every time the price goes up due to market increases, one eye gets more duty to waste, win win everytime.
Makes me so f**king angry.

Although I agree in many ways, and there is a % increase in duty, it seems to me that the oil companies are just raking it in when the cost per barrel goes down again after a big hike?
