No rear grip - or is it me?

For those that dont know i recently had an off, trying to accelerate on black ice i think. now the bike is back on the road and my daily commute for the night shift is on the bike in the cold.

My problem is that the rear wheel feels slippery and got no grip even in a straight line, the guys who fixed it didnt test ride it with the new handlebars on, but with the old bend ones on they said it felt fine, they was in the warm and dry, im riding the the cold and damp, so is it my head saying its no good or could the Dunlop sportsmax D208 (sports touring) tyre on the rear be useless in the cold?

Since my off i have test rode the Dorsoduro which felt fine in the day, i am waiting for a dry warm day to test ride my sv to see if its just the tyres but if someone knows anything else that could cause this problems let me know.

maybe useless question, but how old are your tyres?
In which..is there plenty of tread, not bald etc

Re: Help, me or bike?

front is really old but im sure the problem is the rear which i had new in august, there half way into the tread so no where near the limit yet. so the only thing it can be is my head or they have no grip unless you can warm them up which i cant in this cold weather.

has the suspension been messed with ? (rear)

Barwell: no, the suspension feels normal to me.

So YC how would i go about checking for play in the swing arm? my knowledge of bikes is limited to being about to rebuild a 2 stroke engine and the electrics not much else im afraid.

I'd say there's a chance you are being overly sensitive after your off - most people would be. By all means check tyres, suspension and swinging arm but it maybe you just need some time back on the bike.

Re: Help, me or bike?

When i fell off due to rear end slipping every corner i went round for a good few weeks after had me thinking the bike was slipping again, so it may be a mind thing. Its still worth checking the bike over or get someone else to take it for a spin and see what they think.
