Really hacked off with my Brakes
Last week I couldn`t budge the SV off the driveway , I whipped the calipers off and found the wiper seals were bolloxed . Ordered a complete set of seals and changed them last weekend (wipers and normal) . Bled the system and only got a half decent operation . I ordered a Mityvac and replaced the nipples on the calipers as well and put PTFE tape around the new Stainless nipples before insertion . Bled the system with the Mityvac and it is no better than when I did it by hand . If I put a cable tie on the bike overnight the lever is superb and as it should be until I drag the bike off the driveway . I did this last night and have bled the system for the 3rd time and it`s still a big pile of **** . I am at the end of my patience with this bike now and am starting to hate and detest it and feel no love for it at all . To be honest it`s a box of Swan Vesta matches away from being an insurance job . Any idea why these brakes are a pain on the chocolate strafish to do . Every other bike i have owned was dead simple to do but this pile of chronic pig sh`t is getting right on my nerves now .
PS. It`s a K3 with Renthal bars as well , not clip-ons . I feel like I`ve wasted £40 on a Mityvac as it did no better job than I did manually . |
Re: Really hacked off with my Brakes
is that tape like plumbers tape round the bleed nipples

Re: Really hacked off with my Brakes
It suggested it in the Mityvac booklet , and no I am not blocking the bleed holes , I just put 3 winds areond the threads and nowhere near the hole , I aint that stupid .

Re: Really hacked off with my Brakes
I don't know what the hell mity vac is but bleeding manually normally does the job, so sounds like something's at fault with your brake system.
How old are the brake lines? there's definitely no corrosion on the pistons is there? (thinking of rapidly wrecked seals). I had major problems bleeding up the brakes on the banana everyone told me I'm a spaz and can't be bleeding it properly - turned out it had been crashed prior to me having the bike and they'd put the wrong mastercylinder on. Guess mastercylinder could be a weak link, knackered seals? |
Re: Really hacked off with my Brakes
Yeah I've heard you're not supposed to use plumbers tape too, was air escaping round the nipples?

Re: Really hacked off with my Brakes
If you have done the calipers perhaps the issue lies in the master cylinder? Not unknown for these to leak past the plunger giving a weak brakeline pressure.

Re: Really hacked off with my Brakes
It had new Stainless lines fitted 18 months ago when I fitted the ABM comfort kit and my mate made a comment that it was a bitch to bleed then and pumped the Fluid into it with a compressor . The pistons have a tiny bit of pitting on them but it is on the outer edge where it cannot go anywhere near the wiper seal ,
