Coming soon to a roadside near you.
Random tugs from the plod and a free condescending lecture...

Re: Coming soon to a roadside near you...
hmmm, like the article says the police seem to be targeting bikers more than car drivers
how peed off are you gonna be if you get pulled over, when youre on good ride out with mates, just to be told how you should ride when alot of motorcyclists have already done advanced riding courses or extra safety training anyway!! Like it says i think theres ALOT more car drivers out there that need that sort of advice!! |
Re: Coming soon to a roadside near you...
Yeah, nice one - they give you a high viz vest, and a back pack to cover it up with

Re: Coming soon to a roadside near you...
I'd like to know if it's going to be Police bikers who are doing the "educating"
I could just about cope with that, and the copper would likely be as embarrassed as you that they had to do it But a traffic copper who's never ridden a bike in his life spouting the biker's equivalent of the ABCs...? I'd probably ride away and find out what powers they had to stop you... |

Am I being cynical in thinking that the officer starts off with.. "we'd like to talk to about safe riding, oh look a race can, no baffle, small number plate oh you realise thats an offense dont you sir" |
Re: Coming soon to a roadside near you...
Staffordshire Police already do this.
OPERATION OCTANE  Operated by Staffs Police on the Ride it Right Routes (routes with high motorcyle casualties in Staffordshire) 3 weekends per year - two bank holidays and one other  All bikes targetted for stops  Out of 450 bikes stopped last August bank holiday, only 2 were prosecuted so the emphasis is most definately on education, rather than prosecution. (My guess is the two prosecutions were for serious things like no insurance, rather than number plate / exhaust / visor) |
Re: Coming soon to a roadside near you...
Id be well p1ssed off if this sort of thing made me late for work.Is this a new legal right for the police to be able to stop you for no reason at all?I thought they needed reasonable grounds, but that could be a throwback to when this was a free country.

Re: Coming soon to a roadside near you...
Given I ride a bright yellow motorcycle and wear a dayglo, with a topbox covered in reflectors and generaly dont ride like too much of a twit I imagine I'll get left alone.
But it would be nice to have a good hearty discussion about safety and control and stuff. Especialy when alot of the things that make me unsafe are out of my control i.e. other road users and road surfaces. As for my loud exhaust...well, its stopped a few dozy mums from wlaking out in the road at me, pram first |
Re: Coming soon to a roadside near you...
If they try and give me a high vis vest I'll wipe my back side on it! (when I get home of course) :smt077
