What should I do? Help me decide.
Hello All
My dilemma is this…….. My best man / friend, lives in Portugal and has done for a couple of years. Due to timings etc I have never been out there to visit him. However, I now have the option and time that suits us both to go out there and spend six days with him. I am now however having doubts…… To make it feasible I would be flying Thursday 18th March and returning Tuesday 23rd March. All in, including flights and some spending money will be about £200. My mate is working Thursday / Friday / Monday / Tuesday, so I will need to entertain myself on these days. So would only realistically spend weekend and nights having a blast with him. Lily is happy for me to go and has encouraged me to as she knows how much I miss my best buddy. But, in the back of my head, I keep thinking…..£200 for a weekend away with my mate……is it really worth it? As an example, I have something which I am currently paying off, which has £50 per month going on it with 3 months remaining. I keep thinking……I could pay that off with the money I had earmarked for my trip…..thus making things easier for us by £50 per month……. What would you do? Go……or stay and pay stuff off. Cheers Drew PS - Poll added for one day only, as would need to book flights tommorow. |

Drew......bills are a part of our lives....good friends ARE our lives. I understand the desire to be frugal, but you are budgeted for your commitment and have managed without thst £50 a month so far, so 3 more months will not kill you.
Go to Portugal, when he's in work, get out, use your legs and enjoy having some time away from everything. Go walk around the local community, window shop, sit in a cafe and spend a couple of hours reading a book a drinking good coffee. Honestly, it sounds perfect to me that he's working as you get a proper break. It's amazing how good for the soul it can be to spend some time alone in a strange place. You'll have time with him in the evenings and the weekend and can have an absolute blast with him then. You are being sensible about paying off your commitment, but it will never be as important as your friendship...so don't even think about it. Life is too short Drew....enjoy your friends here and now! |
