Walking boots
What brand do you swear by?
I realised my usual crappy pair of boots are pretty knackered so thought I'd treat myself to a brand spanking new pair and spend a bit of dollar in prep for my forthcoming trip to Italy. I now have a pair of these: http://www.outdoor4less.co.uk/UserFi..._green_400.jpg Brasher Supalite Hybrids. Don't look much but I wanted something lightweight (the usual leather ones feel like clodhoppers and I don't fancy carrying those about!). I tried these on and they were comfy in the shop....got home and tried em on with a pair of Bridgedale socks and BLISS! So so comfy, I promptly wore them about the house for a bit, while cleaning and ironing LOL. Good thing they didn't make my feet too big eh lads? I'll be honest, even though I love hillwalking etc, (although did a lot more at uni than I do now - no more Welsh mountains to climb on the doorstep #sniff# ), I've never really had the money to go and buy a half decent pair of boots. I've had Hi Tec's which I still wear, no waterproofing whatsoever but comfy as pie (had about 4/5 years) and a couple of years ago invested £50 in a pair of Regatta waterproofs, they were alright for a bit but now need re-waterproofing (got bored of wearing them as were too clodhoppery and unflattering - did the job while I was at uni, bearing in mind the choice of hiking shops in Aberystwyth were and are severely limiting!) So for those hillbillywandering types out there, how many of you have or have had Brasher and like 'em, and if you don't like 'em what do you swear by? |
Re: Walking boots
Scarpa, tried Meindl and Brasher but they don't fit my wider (flat) feet as well as a scarpa

Re: Walking boots
Hmmm yes, I really want a pair of Meindls, they are supposed to be the top boot but not may places seem to stock them near me, and I wanted them this week so I could wear them in a bit. Happy with me Brashers for the meantime though.

Re: Walking boots
I used a pair of Peter Storm boots for work, ie: 6hrs a day, ~3 days a week - they lasted 3.5yrs which I reckon is pretty good
By the end they had no tread left (so only suitable for working on dry roads) and they had holes at the points where the material pinches as you bend your toes, but they are still perfectly wearable |
