new tyres wheel balancing issue help?
I just had some avon storm ultras fitted. The rear went on fine got balanced all ok.
However the front when put on the machine needed a 25 gram weight and a 90 gram weight. My mechanic was shocked. So he deflated tyre rotated the tyre around the rim 180 degrees and balanced again but this time it came to 75 grams instead of 90. he was still shocked and put the weights on and said report back as he was still not convinced. Now at speeds of 30+ and also under harsh acceleration theres is notable shake in the steering and naturally gets worse the quicker i go. went back to him today and he said take the weights off and see how it is, still shaking. i'm taking it back to him on tuesday but any help as to what the problem is would be great. Could it be a duff tyre? its a k9 sv650s btw. thanks |
Re: new tyres wheel balancing issue help?
Indeed that sounds like a bad tyre, your fitter should take it off and fit a replacement, send that one back to Avon as a dud. If with all those weights on it, it still does not run balanced, then it is not fit for purpose / of merchantable quality IMO and should be replaced FoC.

Re: new tyres wheel balancing issue help?
Good afternoon all.
Before condemning the tyre, have you tried balancing the wheel without the tyre fitted? I have come across cases where it's a wheel issue, such as worn bearings that cause an excess of weight to be required to achieve a good balance. Cheers. |
Re: new tyres wheel balancing issue help?
Can't fathom out why wheel imbalance is at anything other than at the valve or 180 degrees away. Unless it is affected by brake discs?

cheers for the replies, will ask my mechanic to look into all ofthe issues raised.
however you really think it would be bearings, considering its just under 1.5 years old? cheers |
Re: new tyres wheel balancing issue help?
It's certainly not a long life, but, stranger things have happened.
