flat spot?
 

I have a 99 sv 650 I have just had it derestricted but it has a bit of a flat spot when in low revs and opened up quickly is this normal? I have a scorpion exhaust can on it if that could be the problem. I am new to the big biking world so any help or ideas I would appreciate it thanks

when you say flat spot do you mean when you rev it from idle it drops revs at 3k and if you rev it hard it stalls or another flat spot at a different RPM m8?

the exhaust will affect it in the low revs. try opening up the idle mixture slightly.
by that i mean not even an 8th of a turn on the screws, this normally does the trick but re-jetting etc is the norm.

I mean if your stedily moving with the revs at bout 3 - 5 thou then. Open it up it lags then the revs drop the bike slows slightly then it opens up I was thinkin of dyna jetting n k&n but I've read that the jets can kill your carbs also I've thought of balencing the carbs but it seems fine when idleing?

Try using more revs...thats quite low revs to be cracking the throttle on!

Do try balancing the carbs; my bike idled fine, but when I took it to get serviced (spannerman) it was found the carbs where 12 mmHg differant in their vacum; suzuki limit is 20 mmHg.

The end can shouldnt cause any problems. Does the bike smell a bit of petrol when running, when its warm, from the exhaust?

What revs are you at, when you feel the flat spot?
IIRC the SV does have a flat spot around 5k. Someone somewhere will be able to correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty sure its there.
Shouldn't need to rejet for a scorpion can, one of my SVs has a stubbied one at the end of a very curvy hi level link pipe, and hasn't been rejetted, doesn't need it either.
When was the last time it had a new air filter?

Having a rejet doesn't kill your carbs, my other SV has a stubbied Art can, modified air filter and had the jets drilled so it was comfortable with the set up, it was put on a dyno for this too.
