Hair dye - mainly for the girlies and we're in IB so please don't moan at me!

Hi de ho!

Right so my issue is this, I wish to redye my hair red before the yorkies go on their jollies but I know it will probably fade in the sun. That I can cope with but is their any possibility it will change colour? As that would be not so good :-s

Point of interest which may help your reply:

1) we are going to Torreveija, Spain
and
2) I use Nice and Easy non permanent. I want to just go with permanent as I'm getting bored of dye washing out...tips?

Aye fangyooooo :-D

If you are using a permanent dye, get some coloured hair shampoo as well (i think some brands do some for red hair)

If you do it sooner rather than closer to the holiday, then the chemicals in the swimming pools are less likely to effect the dye. But to be honest I have never had my hair change before of swimming pools. It's mainly the sun that makes it lighter no matter what colour it is dyed!

How bright do you want to go, how thick is your hair?

Kitten used XXL Red once due to the thickness of her hair and the length we used two dye kits and left it on for about 25 minutes (twice the normal time)

It was very very red, whats more is it went even brighter over the summer in the sunshine..

It looked ace. :-)

(oh it stains everywhere else though and appears to still leech from the hair in the shower)

Well I've used the non permanent as mentioned which turns it a lovely vibrant red for a few days then it fades. I was just planning on using the permanent version of the colour I've been using, I have fine shoulder length har so I can get away with one bottle...

Lily, I'm not planning on going near swimming pools, we'll have the sea :) Although of course that brings the problem of salt in...

Red is not known for changing colour the same way that blonde does. As Lily say do is sooner rather than later give the hair a chance to settle and if you can wash it a couple of time before goin gon holiday and just before you go - give it a wonderful soak in a hair mask for coloured hair - will help protect it from the sun just a little bit better. THe colour shampoos are always good VT gave me one when I was down and its cracking ( will be eternally thankfully for her introducing me to that its a god send! Thanks VT) Prob is I can't remember whats its call.
I use Schwarkoff(sp) XXL though I have gone with Unlimited Gloss this time as it does tend to loss it shine so quick and it doesn't fade so mauch either.

I would PM Von Teese and get the name of thatshampoo and go get red!

And yes like Nos says the red leeches for a while from the hair - so no white towels or pillows!

See with the non permanent it doesn't leach from my hair while dry, are you saying it will if i go permanent?

And I've tried one shampoo for coloured hair, Dove, and it made my head itch like mad :-(

We go on sunday so if I dye it today you think that will be ok? still dont know whether I should just stick with the non permanent dye i've been using the last couple of times (which isn't meant to turn your hair bright red - its mahogany but just seems to go bright red with my hair colour!)

Not too sure on the red shades Maria but a few of the girls I work with all say that the red fades quite quickly. Using a colour shampoo will, I`m sure, help but I`m wondering if you`d be better of (whilst on holiday) using one of the specialist shampoo`s for swimming? I bought one once in boots and it was a shampoo specifically for holidays and stopped the chlorine and salt from the sea stripping your hair of colour and nutrients.

Thanks for the tips girlies! and chap :)

Claire I like the boots shampoo idea, will go have a nosy today. I've just rung a mate of mine who dyes her hair every colour under the sun and is a trainee hairdresser and she says I should be ok to go permanent with the colour iv been using...also, because we're only on holiday a week then the sun shouldn't make that much difference to the colour. Salt could be an issue but I'll take the risk and use some protection stuff.

Cheers all :)

Red always fades quicker than other colours. One thing to remember though Maria, is that red is a complete sh!t to change from if you want to. Dylans godmother is a hairdresser, and she refuses to colour mine at all. Even though shell shove in 22 inch hair extensions, and dye it pink or purple!

Nice and Easy permanents are the ones I've always used....but I know someone who uses to Red 'Live' XXXL ones on her blonder than Dylans barnett, and it comes up absolutely stunning. They look a bit more faffy to me. Don't be disappointed if it don't come out the colour on the box, its all dependant on your own natural base colour.

Oh yeah....and watch the bath ;-0)

As for Dove....steer clear hun. Anything you need to know just give me a ring, and Andrea will answer what ever I ask her.

My mate mentioned the live XXXL one, said it's great but yeah, i'm a bit dubious about switching dyes. I know I don't have any probs with the Nice&Easy so will stick to that for the moment....my natural hair colour is a mousy blonde and the dye i use is mahogany, dunno why but it brings my hair out a lush red. I want it to stay but then I'm thinking it might not be a good idea, i've got a few things coming up that might not agree with red hair....gah...stick with non permanent then I suppose!
