Re: earth problem
Earth = frame = neutral

Re: earth problem
i know it earts against the frame but it there another earth to the rear coil? or can i make one?
also the 2 parts that connect it to the frame are thay both earth pionts or is it just one? this is the only thing i can think of as everything else fine |
Re: earth problem
The frame is "Earth" or negative, if you want you could run a wire directly from the battery negative terminal, but I doubt it will make much difference.
I'm not clear from your post where the problem lies, is it the cylinder next to the front wheel that's not firing? A good way to check is to put a working spark plug into the HT lead of the suspect coil, and either press the body of the spark plug against a clean part of the frame, or run some wire directly from the negative terminal of the battery and expose a good 6 inches of copper wire at the other end. Wrap this exposed copper wire tightly around the thread of the spark plug. (Be sure that the plug is nice and clean). Making sure sure the plug is well away from the spark plug hole in the cylinder, turn over the engine. Did it fire? If so the, it's no the coil or the HT lead. It could be the thread in the cylinder casing is too dirty to give a good connection to earth for the spark plug when fitted. Try cleaning it with a rag and a wee splash of petrol. You could also run a wire from the negative battery terminal to a point on the engine, but if one cylinder is firing OK, this is unlikely to help. |
Re: earth problem
its the rear one.
near the seat been out there this arvo and put a peice of wire from the coil to the bolt that holds the tank hinge on. put the plug in the ht rested on the frame. stated the bike and it sparked.:smt041 connected it all up nicely and tested it again and nothing :smt009 so back to the start |
Re: earth problem
could this be a broken up ht lead and where your moving it about its giving a spark but when normal its not?

Re: earth problem

I think you might of just hit the nail on the head. thats what i was thinking as its the only thing left. |

was going to say this too! Had same prob on Suzy, replaced both HT leads (to be sure) with some cheap orange coloured leads from Halfords, they were graphite or carbon cored. Never had an issue since. Read the OP this morning on my phone, but being at work with dodgy signal, couldn't reply. |
Re: earth problem
need to get some ht lead.
need to get out for a ride |
Re: earth problem
Well if its a ride you need http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=150010 :-)
