Valve clearances = New Gasket?
Just a quick question.....I'm about to check the valve clearances on my k6 sv650s, will i need to replace the cylinder head gasket or can i just use the old one is its not damaged???
thanks |
Re: Valve clearances = New Gasket?
Also, will i have to remove the radiator or can the clearances be checked without removing the rad?

Re: Valve clearances = New Gasket?
Rad must come off to get to the front im afraid.
But no, no gaskets involved just the cyclender head cover i believe. Some one with more knowledge will be along soon though. |
Re: Valve clearances = New Gasket?
Rocker cover gasket is silcon rubber, so won't need replacing

Re: Valve clearances = New Gasket?
Nope....actually was at spannermans today while he was doing this.
Take off and clean all surfaces well and then i believe you re-grease slap back on and tighten everything back up. [Edit] Again dont take my word on the putting back together bit may need somthing else than rubber grease =s |
Re: Valve clearances = New Gasket?
The cam cover has a rubber gasket which you can re-use so long as you don't damage it, I bought new (not cheap) but could have saved my money. Old or new, apply a little sealant where the half round sections fit in the head. I did not remove the rad completely, I may have tilted it forward; some time ago now and I don't have the best memory, but I think I removed the airbox and got some access from above. Hope this helps.

Not grease young fella. A little silicone sealant around the cut outs. (These are the half moon shaped things). Make sure you clean all the old sealant from the cylinder head, & the gasket itself before replacing the cover, or it'll probably leak. If the gasket comes away from the cylinder head cover, hold it in place with a few drops of Superglue on the outside edge only. Cheers. |
