MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?

Mighty org...

The bike is SORN'ed because the MOt ran out before I could renew the tax. Can I ride to the MOT station and back again before applying for a new disc?

Thanks!

Yes, But officially the MOT must be booked, you cannot stop on route etc.

And you must be insured. But otherwise as per Tim.

Like the boys above have said, providing you have a prior booking at the test centre, are insured and take the most direct route there, there is no problem.

There's a case law somewhere that you can stop for petrol and cigs IIRC.

That said... not worth the hassle. Ride directly there.

ahem ahem ,you must ride directly to an mot station that you have prebooked
BUT you may buy a bike in say northern ireland and ride it to your local mot place in say preston , completely legally as it is YOUR local mot station
just had to point that out, not that id know anyone who would do such a thing of course ;)

Really? I understood it could only be a reasonable distance. (e.g. not necessarily the nearest testing station, but not one at the other end of the country)

My place doesn't do bookings. I presume that will be ok. basically if I get stopped by the plod I think I will be fine, but if I get some tickets off a scamera, then I will appeal with the MOT cert. So it should be ok.

Ok if they don't do bookings then get them to write your reg number down at the place so if the plod check then they can honestly say "yeah he said he was bringing his bike xxxx xxx around today" ... thus it is a pre-arranged test and within the letter of the law :)

Yep I've done this with no problem. Stopped on the way back with all docs and got the tax at the post office, just because I was passing.

LOL You might get away with a petrol stop, but not a stop for cigs! Well not if I were a plumber anyway. :D
