Greetings all and starting problem.
Hi everyone your help would be greatly appreciated.
I recently bought a 05 plate Sv 650 (A drunk moment on Ebay) ;-) Anyway, It has a starter problem. Ignition on, clutch lever in push button and nothing not even a click, Keep your thumb on the button and after a few seconds it will turn and start first time. As a newbie to the site and didn`t see an intoduce yourself bit, so apologies in advance  |
Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
Might just be a poor contact inside the starter button switch gear. Does it do it every time or just now and then?

Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
Does it everytime, but worse when it has warmed up....wasn`t sure if it was cellunoid related....I`m certainly not a wiring expert. So just want to try and eliminate the easy stuff before last resort of garage if you know what i mean.

Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
Try and bridge the solenoid, with ignition on, out of gear, see if it starts first time then.
If it does, at least you know the wiring to the starter motor is ok and so is the starter motor itself. It's fairly simple to check the switch, you just need a multi-meter and the wiring diagram. I'll have a look and see what wires you need to check. |
Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
Just another thought, if you switch the ignition on, then wait say five/ten seconds before pushing the starter is there still a delay? The K5 is injected and sometimes bikes have to go through a sort of pre flight routine before starting. Maybe yours is taking a bit longer than it should which might mean an issue with the ECU?

Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
I normally wait for the checks to finish before starting.

Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
have you checked to make sure the sensor on the clutch lever is in correctly. my mate bought one from a showroom where they had pulled out the sensor to be safe, he pushed it 3 miles to get it to his local bike garage and was then told he just had to push the sensor back in lol

Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
have you fixed it ???? if not have a look at the side stand sensor that will cut the bike out if you have it in gear and stand down as the wires could be lose. but it sounds for like the switch gear

Re: Greetings all and your thoughts please
I think i have solved the problem, fingers crossed ;-) Looks like it is the clutch switch...pulled the plug gave it a clean a quick squirt of wd and sorted. I`ll just keep an eye on it now.
Thanks all. |
