Wild deer

These creatures are becoming a right nuisance around here. They used to roam on The Wrekin but in recent years have multiplied and have spread out a lot. You occasionally see them grazing, they come out of the woods in the early evening, but they are getting bolder and are causing a lot of damage to crops.

Yesterday on one of my many trips up the tip, one ran out from the hedge onto the A49 (that's the by pass). It was very frightened with the traffic and thankfully it ran along the edge of the road and not in front of the traffic, would have caused an accident if it had as the road was so busy (NSL too), a bike coming the other way had a nasty shock though. I've seen an accident involving one - I arrived shortly after - a dead deer, a right mess, and somebody's SLK looking very mashed.

Problem is, as soon as anyone suggests a cull, you get the animal rights people complaining with the Bambi effect.

Deer are stupid and a risk to drivers. Venison tastes good. These things cannot be a coincidence.

How cruel! They're so nice and fluffy, you can't possibly kill them.

Try vension steak with sage leaves on them and wrapped in bacon - its a version of Saltimbucco.

Oh no - not bacon, I haven't eaten pork for 20 years - pigs are so cute and clever you can't eat them. Deer on the other hand....

I ride/drive through Thetford Forest twice a day for 5 days a week........the things are everywhere esp munkjacks. Thet often pop out from the side of the road and scare the crap out of me. This area has one of the highest population of deers.

A guy a work hit one two years ago on his bike result 2 broken wrists and a totalled bike.

Often see bits of them smeared down the road.
