Gearing advice
 

looking at slightly changing the gearing on my bike, from looking through the forum i can see all the advice and its usefull, from my understanding going a few teeth up at the back will help with acceleration but i cant find any bits of info on on the back and if i woul need extra links so

1. going up two teeth on the back will i need a longer chain,
2, will it give a noticible difference, ( and if any one has done it there views would be appreciated)

If you want to go up two teeth at the back you will effectively need a chain two links longer to keep the rear wheel where it is, however..... with the bike on a paddock stand loosen the rear wheel and move it as far forward as the adjusters will allow. Do you now have a chain that is two links to long? (Hold the bottom of the chain against the sprocket and lift the top off and try and move a link back over two teeth). If you do then you will be able to use the same chain. If not you're going to have to buy a longer one.

As for noticible difference it depends on how sensitive you are. In day to day road riding I'd suggest the only real difference you will notice will be in the RPM and fuel you use when cruising on the motorway. An easier and cheaper way is to take one tooth off the front sprocket. Unless your chain is completely shagged there will be enough adjustment to stay with the same chain, front sprockets are cheaper, and it's a bigger difference that you should notice.

Changing the front sprocket will increase chain wear though.

from what i can gather going down 1 at the front is like going 3 up at the back, which im not to sure if thats to much, and i was trying to keep chain wear down,

i dont do motorway miles, very very occasinal, mostly town and country roads, was just looking for a little extra acceration so wondered if anyone had gone up two on the back and how it felt,

I went to a 48t at back, was fun. Still used it on motorway a lot, maybe it used a bit more fuel but not too much. I used a 112 link chain for that, but maybe I could have got away with the stock 110. (naked bike)

Stock on naked is 45 but yeah 4 up from S model.

yeh had a look at that, quite helpful in one way but nice to get peoples opinions on there set up, how does urs feel compared with stock

I'm back at standard gearing now and the larger rear makes it a lot easier to keep the revs where they need to be and get the power down.
