Tyre section
The standard tyres may not be the preferred figment, but I've done a few miles on them and they're nothing like as bad as some people claim.

There is nothing wrong with them, I did 6800 on mine including a couple of trackdays. They were better than bridgestone bt021s.

Keep them and see how you find them before listening to all the bollox others people say about them.

Round and black...:)

If i were buying any bike I would factor in the cost of new tyres regardless to something I preferred.
In your position I would plump for the Avon Storms, they seem to just be the best tyre for the SV haven't heard a bad word said about them.

Wait till the ones you have wear out then get storms. Job done

I'm in a similar position; I picked up my SV three weeks ago, and was worried about the stock tyres, since it's generally believed that OEMs are made of collapsed stars.
So far, I've only had slippages in the first 100 miles. The chicken strips are about 4mm now, so there's obviously not a grip problem as such, they just need a bit longer to warm up than, say, a set of pilot road 2s do.

Don't freak out about them. They're fine.

Wrong, very very very wrong - they should definitely be black and round.

And the ones on your bike should be worn out before new ones are bought.

Hmmmmm, where to begin?

first off I take it your talking about th Dunlop 220's here? I doubt you'll find many original Metz 4's kicking about (those were truely shocking tyres), but the 220's aren't bad just limited, you could put them on a track, but I wouldn't as I'd like to enjoy myself and they won't allow it, but for a new rider out on the road they'll do, come time to change however and there are much better options available, as said above have a look in the tyre section

Perspective is all important I'll grant you and some will never find the limit of these tyres in normal use, however it's hardly fair to generalize about everyone else opinion or ability.

Cheers Mark.

I liked my Conti RoadAttacks, they were really good, and the grip in the wet was truly impressive.
