lubing your chain while out and about?

ok heres a question for you. lets say your out and about across europe or something and you need to lube your chain (not got a scottoiler or similar) how do you go about it as you cant easily clean it properly. Just spray over the top of all the gunk on it? or what?

The way I cleaned my chain for a few months without a paddock stand.

-> Get some chain degreaser, spray visible chain, move bike forward, spray again, etc all the way round the chain.
-> Get rag, and wipe visible chain giving a spray here and there to remove tough crap off chain, move bike forward, etc all the way round chain.
-> Once the chains looking good get your chain lube out and spray visible chain, move bike forward, etc.

Job done.

Should take about 20 minutes or so depending on how thorough you are.

I took a can of oil with me - I don't like expensive chain lube crap - the dirt and grit sticks to it, where as oil will fling it off. Every evening I applied the oil to the warm chain. We were away for 4000 miles and it worked just fine.

I now have a scottoiler - and for £50 it's well worth getting. Far less hassle and the chain stays cleaner as the suppl,y of fresh lube will fling the dirt off before it builds up too much. Well worth considering if you are off tyouring and want to forget about your chain.

you ain't going to be cleaning a chain whilst away on a trip over Europe. Just make sure the chain is lubed every day, then when you get back give it a good scrub down and relube.
I don't think Peg actually cleans his chain all that often, but he has shares in chain lube!
I clean mine every time I wash a bike. But if I'm away, just keep applying that lube.

Take a tin of racing lube.
It also depends upon the mileage u'd be doing! If i was doing around a thou miles in a week i would just take the lube.

Longer than that probs take a small tool kit, cleaner and lube and adjust the chain

I ain't too sold on the wurth lube, but it doesn't collect cr*p on peace.
Trying the new castrol racing lube (dry again!) once the wurth is gone.

Peg uses the Worth on the ZZR, I use the Castrol on the SVs. I prefer the Castrol myself.

i used the old castrol racing (white dyed so u could see where u'd been) and i'm going to try it again and see which 1 I prefer.

Talking things chain related; is there any thing better than wurth brake and chain cleaner on the market?

I got a litre of 'kal-guard' for £4 so have been using that, flings like a futhermucker but keeps me bits moist ;)

Wurth dry lube is pretty good, probably go back to that when I run out of this ****.

I usually pack a can of lube on weekends away but as said if storage space is a real concern you can get the mini cans or even a small tub. Get a mate or ill-placed orger to hoist it up against the side stand - spray and spin the wheel. If there's grit on there wipe it off with a paper towel or used socks or sommat. If it's nice slimey lubey 'gunk' then spray over.
