Plug in tyre
I have a plug in my rear tyre, had it since I have had the bike and as you all know I have not used Zuky much. But recently I have been using her and have noticed wear in the tyres ( they no longer square lol), but the plug is no longer flush with the tyre, it is protruding a little as if it is not wearing as much as the tyre.
Is it safe? Being my useless self I have no idea. http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/4949/plugj.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us |
Re: Plug in tyre
Pass, but it looks to me like the plug is coming out, time for a new tyre maybe.

Re: Plug in tyre
That looks fine to me based on the other two I've had.

Re: Plug in tyre
If its a mushroom plug that is normal.

Re: Plug in tyre
is it leaking ? if it's a professionally fitted; then it's fitted from the inside so can't come out, apart from your normal tyre checks (dependent on mileage, once a week) and it's not leaking, personally I wouldn't worry about it.
However if it troubles you and effects your confidence in your tyres, then get it checked, it'll cost about £20 for a tyre place to take the tyre off and inspect/replace if needed. Cheers Mark. |
Re: Plug in tyre
i have found plugs to be made of harder rubber, had one in the van which caused a slight thumping noise. thought i picked up a nail again! i would do the same rictus has said, and trim the plug back flush with the tyre, as long as you feel happy to do so.

Re: Plug in tyre
As Rictus sez - spit on it & look for bubbles.

Re: Plug in tyre
I've had plugs looking like that on a couple of different bikes and its never been a problem, just make sure it isn't leaking and as Rictus said... if in doubt get it checked just to be sure

Re: Plug in tyre
Looks like a proper repair plug to me. As has been mentioned, plugs are of a harder compound than the tyre its self. If your not loosing any pressure I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Re: Plug in tyre
i think the plugs move aroung and squash aside so dont suffer from the wear the rest of the tyre does, if that makes sense. wouldnt bother me at all providing it stays inflated.
