What bike next - GSXR600? Also value my bike.
 

I passed my test 2 yr ago and i dont think for one minute that i know it all, as its a massive learning curve......as we all know.
I am also still really happy with the 2002 svs i have. Still love to ride it, and look after it, but lately the eye has started to wander.........mmmmmmmm GSXR 600 k7 in blk:D soon as i see one i melt lol
If...and i still dont know yet, but if i was to move up would this be a good transition from the trusty sv? what are the comparisons/diferences etc
Also, what should i be looking for for mine ( i will take sum pics) shes a minter 52 plate........really is in good condition, with a remus carbon can, double bubble screen data tool s3 and heated grips, new tyres, new battery etc etc. She does have 34k on, but this is mainly euopean miles by previous owner. I have had the bike 2 yr and put about 3.5k on.

as for gsxr 600
good bike not going mental as say a gsxr thou
very different riding style, imho more work than the sv to ride well , next to no engine brakeing , remember its a il4 so it will take some getting used to after the curvy

K2 are nice bikes, good size unlike the modern "where's the rest of it" ones.

That age check the suspension, forks and shocks are ok when fresh (if a tad harsh at back) but likely to be tired. Miles ahead of a stock SV in handling. Plenty room to improve though same as any stock bike.

Good motors, pretty strong, very 600-ish though, very rewarding and plenty quick when kept up on the boil.


I would say do more miles on your SV though, 3.5k in 2 years isn't enough to get used to it never mind get to limits of it. (unless there's some other reason for change)

when i looked into this change, i read loads and in the 600's i would not have got a gsxr, r6 and cbr600 rr meant to be much better. ended up going with a 750 gsxr as it was not much more expensive and much more bike.

i still get a fair bit of engine breaking on my gsxr especially high up in the rev range in 2nd and 3rd gear, take one for a test ride and see what you think. depends what you want to get out of your next bike

YC's got a point as the IAM say it takes over 5000 mile to get use to how you and your bike work together.

I've done around 3000 mile on mine and i'm no where near learning what the bike is capable of (and there is still a lot that the bike can give before it'll let go!).

I would not put a limit on it like that at all. A few sessions on track, a few runs up and down your favourite road will do job just fine if you are used to getting used to bikes.

i bought a brand new ninja 600 after my sv and lasted 4 months with it, then i traded it for a vstrom 1000. missed the thump and the laziness of a Vee.

SS600's are great but only for the 5% of the time you're going off your nut. I want another one but mainly for the track. TBH i'm probably gonna get an rs 250 as my next fun bike, If i had to have just one bike i'd probably aim for a vfr or a gsxr 750

id agree with yc, do more miles first.

i did over 4000 miles on a 50cc in a year, from when passing my full test to now (a year) i did 5500 miles on my MT-03 660cc single (may - oct) , and 3500 miles on the sv (oct - now)

Is that so? There's one more reason I wouldn't recommend IAM training then.

Any half decent rider will get used to a new bike fairly soon if they are using it regularly, or if they swop from bike to bike frequently. The more I hear about the IAM the more I think it's perfectly suited to people who are incapable of thinking for themselves, i.e. not me.
