Fitting a Remus can - The answer
 

Well I got board of looking at the box today and fitted my remus can to my 10 plate bike which has just 60 miles on the clock. I was very apprehensive about doing this, but I did learn some useful things along the way doing it. For anyone doing this to a new bike take note!

I made the cut at 7mm from the weld rather than the 60 mm suggest in the instructions that gives you a good 1cm clearance of the Cat.

I didn't remove the lambda sensor because in my opinion you are more likely to cause damage to this very delicate thing by unbolting it.

I totally removed the footpeg to prevent any scratching of the heel plate.

I inserted a piece of wood inbetween the swing are and the pipe to deflect any blows from the cutting.

The heatshield bolts are a bastward to get out, and just bent when I tried to snap the weld. I cut the bottom of the bolt off with the dremmel and they just unscrewed.

I place the bike on my abbastand to ensure it was level and secure.

I made the first cut with a dremmel and cut disc in an arc around the pipe.

Contary to some of what I read on here, my pipe is single skin.

I then took a normal size hacksaw (not junior) and started cutting. The dremmel had cut 50% of the pipe in an arc.

****important**** I used bi-metal flexible back, HSS 24 teeth hacksaw blades. I also started with a brand new one. It cut through the stainless like butter. Total cutting time was less than 5 mins.

It is a good job I used the wooden sheld on the swingarm as the saw made contact at least 3 times with me being very careful.

Once off I started the engine and gave it a few handfull to blow any debris from the cat.

I then put a very small ring of high temp silicone on the stock pipe and slid my remus on.

A very neat and tidy job, done in less than 25 mins.

1) you removed the cat, its part of the OEM exhaust i think on pointies
2) double walled pipes i know exist on curvies at least, mabey on some pointies too

No I didn't remove the CAT. Because I cut at 7cms it was about 1cms above the cat, so I could leave it intact. Lots of people have cut through the CAT and totally bolloxed it up cutting in the wrong place.

Double walled pipes are on the Curvy, and early pointies too. Newer models have the single walled version.

you did remove most of the cat, some of it is in the can itself too, i did not realise there was more in the pipe too, i wander if they added that extra bit in the last couple of years to satisfy Euro3 emission standards along with O2 sensor and dual sparks.

Remus can looks and no-doubt sounds awesome. Was thinking of buying a Remus as they have had very good reviews on the Forum. I opted for the Blueflame, trizoid twin port, on the grounds that they are presently offering a 20% discount, trizoid suits the pointy, and they also have a pleasant deep sound.

Oh and thanks for a great write-up. I will now have the confidence to cut the pipe and fit the can.

TSM k7+ have a cat in the mid pipe as well as in the exhaust

Can looks nice and 25mins was quick fitting!!!

Do you mean 600miles? If you've only covered 60miles you've spent more time modding that you have riding! :)

That will be rectifed this week. I have a week of to spend riding it in.
