Master Timing Beacon at UK tracks

Hi all

Does anyone know if they have the pitwall IR timing beacon turned on at trackdays or is it turned off coz of the no timing rule?

Thinking of buying a dash with this built in but it would be a waste without the master beacon.

pointedly it's off, and further if caught actively timing yourself you could well get asked to leave the day.

Cheers Mark.

That doesn't stop a lot of people having a mate 'sending a long text message' from the pitwall. Been guilty of that myself on occasion.

If you getting that serious go to test days. Cheaper track time too

I'd heard it was because of insurance; start timing and it becomes motorsport and invalidates the TD's liability insurance

Yes but you don't know if your improving if you haven't got the data. Got an answer from Throttlemonkey which has pointed me in the right direction. I keep looking at test days especially as they have them at my local track which doesnt have trackdays but the cost of the ACU license and the relative speed increase puts me off.

Its not the Trackdays insurance its the track insurance but the trackday organiser has to be seen to be policing it.

I thought it was a magnetic strip under the track rather than a beacon. Last time I asked there was one at Anglesey and Oulton Park that allowed you to use lap timers such as Alfano Pro etc.

update - details of Alfano enabled tracks here http://www.hot-lap.com/#/tracks-uk/4525880156

As I thought, the strips are not powered....

Is your magnetic strip an electric loop?
The strips are just magnets laid in a groove. They don't need electricity, batteries or maintenance of any kind. They emit a free constant energy during app. 200 years.
