I just passed my test and put down a deposit on a 56plate SV650S It arrives Friday.

It looks good and the scorpion can makes it sound brilliant. All the reviews say that its a great bike for a first big bike but is fun for experienced riders too.

I was wondering if any one could give me some key do's and dont's as a new SV owner?

-or- povide advice on the best way to keep the bike in good condition as I will be doing a fair few miles on it.

That sorta goes without saying however. Are you a DAS pass or a 33hp Restricted pass?

Get the baffle out of the scorpian, i have one (or did, selling my sv) and it sounds awesome.
Learn to blip the throttle on changedowns, it helps enormously with smoothness as with a twin it can be jerky for new riders or was for me anyway.
Think about upgrading suspension when you're more confident as it can be a bit lacking imo especially for the heavier rider ;)

More experienced and knowledgeable people will be along im sure to give more / better advice.

welcome to the asylum

as for advice well for loads of mileage get these few bits
fender extender
double bubble screen
avon storm st2 tyres (when your current ones need changing)
crash bungs

as for looking after it

acf 50 to keep carp off
regular maint
love it more than your wife/partner/significant other

after that fill with petrol regularly and ride it till petrol has gone then repeat

As new rider myself cant offer much in expirence but take your time learn the bike and just enjoy im still smiling ear to ear and love doing "bike moves"

Spent a year in Hollingswood, but drank Ironbridge way and Shifnal. Then the judge said I could go home I had served more than any reasonable man should have too.

Welcome to the forum buddy and enjoy your new bike when it comes.

If you've never ridden a V twin before then get used to the engine braking and always blip the throttle when down shifting as when I was just starting out i tended to change down without blippin and the rear would slip which can be scary if you don't expect it.

As everyone says ride for yourself and plan ahead and pick your lines.
