storing a petrol tank

I bought a spare petrol tank from ebay in good condition for my XT, idea is to store in the loft in case I need one someday. Its in good condition intenally, no rust. My thoughts are to give it a good misting of WD40 inside, gaffa up the fuel and petcock holes, and put it in a bin bag with a bag of desiccant stuff in there for good measure.
Sound good, or other suggestions?

Those silicone pouch things you get with new shoes/stuff to soak up moisture in the bin bag to keep it extra dry??

Sounds like you have everything covered just a case of making sure its all tight and secure really.

I wouldn't have wd40'd it.
Bar that sounds ok.

Slosh some oil about inside it.

Thought of that, but not sure about removing old oil in 5 or 10 years time. I gave it a good misting of wd40 with the compressor and paraffin gun, thinking thats pretty easy to wash out

Completely seal it after filling it with paraffin eliminating as much air as possible. How long do you intend keeping it in storage 5-10-15-20 years. The alternative is to slosh oil in and out and vacuum seal it[Hover and vacuum seal bags] this should last for donkeys years

Any degreaser will remove old oil when you want to utilise it

Like the idea of vaccuum sealing. No idea of how long I want to keep it especially, its already over 20 years old, its not valuable or anything, they just dont come around too often so I thought I'd keep this one safe.

If you haven't used much oil it's alright to just fill it with fuel. 10l of petrol with an eggcupful of oil won't harm owt.
