Projector Contrast Question
 

as some of you may know i have bought a projector recently, and at the minute it is just projecting onto a matt white wall.

But i have to say im really not impressed with the contrast ratio on it. I had a 1300:1 42" tv which had perfect picture, no complaints, and this is 2800:1, and the blacks are like darkish grey at best, not good for games or films really. Im just wondering is there something in a dedicated projection screen that would help with contrast? or is this just how it will look regardless.

I know there are matt screens and glass bead screens, will any of this help?

I have had my projector since 2006 and the screen is a semi matt proper screen which i got for about £160 ish.
The screen does make a difference.

I had mine last week in the garden for the england match and was fine, just dont expect a projector to be the same picture as a tv cos it wont or ever be.

I run mine on the lowest lamp setting and most other settings mid way and i mainly use my ps3 on mine.
Is the room dark enough?

yeah i knew it wasnt going to be as good quality, i have mine on standard which is the lowest setting on it, just you really notice the lack of the colour black when watching blu rays and playing games like call of duty.

Room is dark, got a blackout blind when i bought it, but picture doesnt really change. I suppose ill just have to live with it then :( lol

Get a screen, i promise you'll notice a big difference, i had a tripod screen before and even noticed a difference between that and the one i have now.

those do look good i have to say, do yous know wer i can buy acoustically transparent screen material over here? if i lived in America it would be easy haha

Your blacks will be as black as your projection wall / screen will appear with the projector switched off. This is what made me decide to loose the whole projection idea unless I have a dedicated room for it.

Unless you room is pitch black and most of the surrounding walls are dark enough (to minimise reflections), you will never get the contrast you got used to from a large LCD or Plasma.

Acoustically transparent screens tend to be more expensive than the projectors themselves, unless someone knows of good deal and cares to share it with us.

yeh this is something i have just been made aware of my youtube, and makes me think duhh really lol. Though did find something rather amazing called a "black diamond" screen, youtube it, looks truely fantastic
