54mm exhaust on 51.5mm pipework

I could well have just landed a cheap Remus exhaust which apparently is fron a 2003 SV, same as mine. However, I have a three quarter GForce system on mine and the inlet on the can has been measured at 51.5mm. They Remus exhaust I could be getting is 54mm inlet according to the owner.

What I want to know is will the 2 -2.5mm make masses of difference or can I pack it out with some sealant and be aggressive when tightening it up to seal it up nicely? A link pipe for the sake of 2mm seems a bit OTT to me.

Cheers in advance people.

When I fitted my Fuel end can I had a similar problem, and it would not have been sorted with aggressive tightening and I don't think packing it out with sealant would have lasted long

I cut a piece off the link pipe supplied with the Fuel can and slipped that over the end of the exhaust pipe. I didn't need the link pipe and it was the perfect size.

But you could do the same with a shim cut out from a tin or alu can. A bit of sealant wouldn't be a problem.

The link pipe isnt included with the can so cutting that isnt an option unfortunately. How could I go abou making the shim? Do you mean just cut a regular old bean can, pack it inside the the can and seal it up basically?

A beer can works fine for stuff like that.

Yep, just a bean can. Alu can would be easier, as you can cut it with a pair of scissors

But I might have a piece of link pipe I can send you

If you did that would be awesome! I only need a tiny piece enough to pack out the 2mm or so gap. I guess a piece a couple of cms or so long should be enough. What do you think?

Thanks so much for that pal, but now theres no need Im afraid. The **** on eBay has seen has **** after I asked him how he managed to get the exhaust to fit with a 2 -2.5mm gap. Before I could even tell him Id found a link pipe solution, he cancelled the transaction. His loss!
