where to get a car battery for a decent price?

Dani's car needs a new battery - phoned cameron's motorstores round the corner from me in York "they're about £40 mate.... oh hang on is it a diesel?" yep, "ah right well in that case it's £79 because they require a different more powerful and more expensive battery"...

Fitting a £79 battery will add over 10% to the value of the vehicle itself (if you catch my drift)..

Any recommendations/info as to whether we really do need super doopa diesel batteries greatly appreciated

Your local dealer is worth a call! Halfrauds insisted I needed a particular battery for my Celica, costing either £79.99 for the normal or £89.99 for the 'better' one. Except the battery was absolutely huge and wouldn't fit.

It turns out their books are WRONG, that the post-facelift gen7 celicas had a different battery than all that came before and Halfrauds don't know this.

Toyota happily supplied me with a proper battery for £45!

Costco - is where I get mine but diesel batteries are expensive mine cost £69 + vat but still cheaper than Merc and its a lifetime guarantee with Costco

Basically if you don't get a diesel batteries there will not be enough power to turn the crank and glow plugs.
Diesels need more power to start them hence the bigger battery capacity is normally about 100AH instead of 60AH.

so in short Yes you need a more expensive diesel battery

nice one cheers abi - should really get my finger out and take some paperwork to costco. If ballpark is around £70 then fair enough... give it a whirl with the local guy

You should be able to take your paperwork and buy at the same time if that helps any. ( i always use Gary's card)
there's nothing worse than when a diesel has a sick battery - it plays havoc with everything and your first thought is never the battery!

There is a place near me that does cheap batteries, but thats no good for you in York! Diesel batteries are great on Petrol cars for the winter. Had one on my old Toyota for years and it NEVER failed to start.

If you can let me know the make/model of car, and if poss the batt type/model I'll check with the back street guy near me. If it works out cheaper I can pick it up for you and bring it to York - I'm going into A1 Moto on Saturday but I can swap things around and come down before then.

I got my Passat battery from here: http://www.tayna.co.uk/fitments/0/R1...Batteries.html
Probably best to check the battery's Ah rating and get something in the same range.

yes diesels require a significantly greater cranking power...£80 is about right for a 2 ish litre diesel

try partco also..
