Loose exhaust - how to fix?

It's me ... again. This time with exhaust problems. It happened on Monday; I was riding along, when all of a sudden my exhaust "dropped" i.e. just got louder all of a sudden . Which means I definitely cannot ride it, as if it was not loud enough beforehand .

So, someone at work looked at it, and advised it was pretty loose where the silencer meets the exhaust pipe (where the two connect), and it was evident it had come loose and was slowly shimmying away (evident by the dirt marks where it had originally sat).

So, the joining clip was loose - I swiveled the exhuast back to its original location; tightened up the bolts and started it up, excited it was fixed again and ready to take back out when, all I got was a huge roar :(

So, does anyone know what is up? I cannot afford an exhaust right now (and very little in fact). And I have just had enough of all these problems. It seems strange that it just got loud, and wasn't progressively getting loud. It's a custom exhaust (not sure which) but I'm sure that makes things twice as difficult :(

Any help will be appreciated :)

Cheers

Re: NEXT Issue - sudden loud exhaust issue

take the old clamp off and put a new stainless steel one, pics would help to see if there is any fitting problem

You must have a major leak somewhere. Feel around the connection and you're bound to spot it. Then it's a case of fitting the pipe properly. It may not be pushed in enough.

as already sead i think you need a new clamp i think they are 50-58mm clamps not sure though

or you are losing exhaust packing as well as the clamp issue ? is it loud when clamped back on properly

He's got real problems if a lump of packing fell out! He's only gonna need a new clamp if the clamp aint clamping. It must be clamping because he clamped it.

yes indeed but as he sead he clamped it and then it unclamped again so i think the threads on the clamp are going or somthing strange happening

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I will upload some pictures.

What you suggest, I hope it's just the clamp. Although it seems pretty solid on there. But... over time it did appear to come loose (which was why I tightened it up) so hopefully that'll be it.

I will upload some pictures. It is weird how it was loose, then the problem occured, I tightened it, and still the same problem :(

Pictures to be uploaded this evening after work.

the can has a strap dosnt it ?

maybe you could take the can off and leave the clamp on the can and tighten it down (not to much) to make the diameter of the opening smaller making the can a harder fit over the link pipe

I think I've had the same problem recently, maybe it's the weather! The circlip that connects the bikes pipes to the link pipe on my scorpion can seems to come loose slightly every couple of weeks at the moment, as if it's not happy with the angle the link pipe has been connected at. Been taking a spanner with me whenever I go out just incase but tightening that circlip whilst reseating the can seems to have done the job.

Hi guys, as promised - piccys. It definitely is tight on there, I've shimmeyed it right down to where it is suppose to sit. So, as far as I can tell, it is fitted right.

I just don't understand why it would just "drop" while I was going along. The only likely conclusion is that it was loose, which it was. Yet, tightening it up seems to make no difference :(.

Thanks for the helps guys!

P.s. the third picture shows the can and, over time, where it was sitting while it loosened. Then I moved it back quite some distance. The picture inside the exhaust is probably meaningless
