Fitting a GSXR K1 K3 rear end
 

So, messing about with the Bucket and trying to get the GSXR 600 K1-K3 rear end to fit threw up some interesting findings.

It turns out that the rear sub frame on the Gixxer is the same width as the mounting bolts on the SV (curvy) frame where as the Sv rear sub frame fits aound them. (the Gixxer sub frame is exactly the width of the mounts wider)A small plate on either side of the GSXR sub frame would see them line up perfectly. The only issue that we had was the seat was then slightly too far back.

So a quick cut of the Gixxer sub frame and a spot of ally welding would see them line up just as the SV ones do. Probably a £30 job for someone with a ally welder. This could either be to make it narrower which would cause problems with the panels fitting or just cut the ends and reweld them with a stiffener. Then the whole rear end would just slot on.

The angle and seating position were spot on and a curvy would look really good with the Gixxer tail on. If you use the Gixxer original tail you'd get the whole pillion stuff too. The exhaust also lines up.

If you fancy adding a GSXR race seat unit this is a piece of cake and fits on the standard Curvy frame. You need to cut off about 1cm of the front points of the GSXR unit and the mounting holes line up with the Sv seat mounts.
A small plate underneat the seat unit sees it fit perfectly with one screw on the vertical face behind the seat.

I've cut this original sub frame to save weight but you don't need to cut the standard one.

Sort out a Bracket for the lights or cut the seat unit to fit the standard one and bobs your uncle.

gsxr front ends, gsxr rear ends, surely everyone be better off buying gixxers?

but this IS still an SV650 site is it not - Berlin still has an SV with slight mods?

Undoubtedly, and if they were the same price to buy and insure as an SV650 I doubt the V twin would be as popular.. :tongue:

Only reason this was fitted is because we needed to shed weight and happened to have some GSXR600 K1 race plastics anyway!

The point of this post was just to share useless information :)

IF one wanted, one could fit an entire GSXR rear end as a drop on replacement with the total sum of work being to trim a cm off the side panels and cut and weld the sub frame so it is about 2cm narrower than std. Find somewhere to fit the bits off the Sv (the battery box on the GSXR is bigger so everything could go in there and the reg rec fits in the same place.) The angles are right so its a drop on replacement.

Just a bit of handy knowledge should anyone fancy doing it.

I bet that'd confuse some people, lol.
