Re-waterproofing textiles?

What's best way to re proof textile bike gear, I washed them in the washer with the textile wash and re sealer sachets but my jacket is a lot less waterproof than before washing.

So what's best way to re seal?

NIKWAX do a re-proofer that works well.

Re: re waterproofing textiles

I use Nikwax Tech wash through the washing machine and then use the Nikwax TX direct Wash In, i tend to do the TX in a sink as it uses less and i know the textile has been in it for the correct time,

Yep ditto above. Use the Tech Wash to wash it and then either the Wash In or the Spray on reproofer and leave to air dry or cool tumble dry.

I do all of my Gore Tex stuff in Tech Wash, including Bike gear (technically sympatex, but near enough). I have used other stuff by Grangers, but it comes in a spray can and even outside it gave me an asthma attack!

Nikwax every time. :D

Grangers do a full range of wash and spray in water based cleaners and proofers as well as flurochemical proofers. The 2in1 is ideal for textiles washes and proofs in one wash cycle. I am biased I admit I work for them all my kit is clean and waterproof :)

Re: Re-waterproofing textiles?

I was talking to one of the guys at Hein Gericke today about this as I bought a 2 piece from them.
As mentioned above Nikwax wash through first off and then (more importantly) use the spray on proofer rather than washing in the equivalent solution. The reason being is you only want the outside surface treated, not the inside too, it makes it less breathable if proofed both sides...
Hope that helps

Re: Re-waterproofing textiles?

Nikwax stuff is cheaper in Go Outdoors. Think it was £9 for a large tech wash and the wash in proofer. Gren top and purple top. cheapest i've seen it. didn't work on my Weise stuff though. Think its best on goretex stuff. I now have a great big waterproof over suit thing which is 10000000% waterproof but as flattering as a turd

Re: Re-waterproofing textiles?

I used nikwax through the washer but after using both sachets my jacket seems to let water through when it didn't before. so I'm wondering if the wash cycle washes the stuff away and would probably be better to leave in a bucket to soak then left to dry. ill try that next time.
